As most of you have seen on social media, our High School Show Choir Director, and Music Business Teacher, D.J. Shumaker, suffered from a seizure during the Show Choir State Finals this past Saturday. He experienced a sentinel headache, which led to a hemorrhaging brain bleed. He was rushed to the hospital and flown by LifeLine to Indianapolis. Since Saturday, Mr. Shumaker has had multiple surgeries to release swelling within his brain, and is still in critical condition. His devoted wife, Sarah Shumaker, is our NCHS Freshman English teacher, and is facing grief and uncertainty. We want to honor their family privacy, but continue to show full support. Our choral students witnessed the traumatic event, and also need your thoughts and prayers. The Dynamiques Girls Choir had won Grand Champion earlier that morning, and Mr. Shumaker collapsed shortly before the Red Hot Blues Mixed Choir took the stage. The students competed under this added stress, but went on to earn Second Place at State! The day was full of emotional highs and lows, but because of both choirs' training and teamwork, they endured together despite the tragedy. We are also grateful to Noblesville High School staff and counselors, as they protected our privacy and provided physical and emotional care for our staff and students. We are proud of the Trojan Family Community for the emotional, spiritual, and financial support they have already shown the Shumaker family. We do not wish to prevent impact of the Go-Fund-Me pages, or other fundraisers that have already been started within the community, but if you or your family would like to show support through letters, cards, non-perishable snacks, or gas/gift cards, you may bring them to the New Castle School Corporation Central Office: 322 Elliott Avenue, New Castle, IN 47362. We are open Monday through Friday, 7:30AM to 3:30PM. We will send your gifts and encouragement to Mrs. Shumaker and her immediate family in a timely manner. Again, we are very grateful for the love and support this community has already shown to this hurting couple. The Shumakers have lovingly served and influenced hundreds of our Trojan families, and we will fully support them on the journey to recovery. Our hearts are hopeful for the health and healing of D.J. Shoemaker. Thank you. Rhema Glover | Communications Specialist rglover@ncweb.me New Castle Community School Corporation 322 Elliott Avenue New Castle, IN 47362 Phone 765-521-7201

Greetings Trojan Families,
We hope you all have a wonderful and safe spring break and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, April 7th.
Please note that we will have a second community meeting to discuss our membership status in our athletic conference (Hoosier Heritage Conference). This meeting will again be at 5:30 p m just prior to the 6:30 Board Meeting on April 14th. Both meetings will occur at the Sunnyside Education Center (formerly Sunnyside Elementary). At the School Board Meeting, the East Central Education Service Center Executive Director, Pat Haney, will provide a brief presentation about the educational support services provided through the ECESC. We are proud to partner with the ECESC as they support not only New Castle but 38 other school corporations in the region. Again, enjoy your spring break!

NCMS Color Guard had their best performance this season at the IHSCGA Divisional Finals before Spring Break. They ended on a good note getting a Gold rating. We are proud of their hard work!

These awesome middle schoolers spent their Saturday evening volunteering and helping out at the Westwood Spring Carnival! Thank you.

Both the Middle and High School Color Guards performed Thursday night at the Winter Showcase. Director Sonja Rupe took both groups to State today! #GoTrojans!

Winter Percussion performed for the community at the Annual Winter Showcase. Both Middle & High School Ensembles are led by Assistant Band Director, Becca Wand.

Join us tonight in the Middle School Pasman Gym for the both Winter Percussion and Color Guard. Support the Arts!

The New Castle Community School Board will meet in a public Special Session at 5:30 pm on Monday, March 10th in the New Castle Community School Board Room. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss topics related to participation in our Athletic Conference. Athletic Director, Cory Bennett will share trending demographic information and will gather input from the Board and public. All are welcome to attend.

Multiple classes benefited from the Media Center this morning. Students picked new books for weekly Accelerated Reading, and other classes collaborated together in studying Aristotle. #abetterncms

The Career Center, High School, Middle School and a significant portion of New Castle lost power today due to high winds at 2:58. The students were safe at all times. Some classes were moved into the cafeterias for better lighting.

It's time to register for the New Castle Little League Softball 2025 Season. Player assessments/evaluations will be at the Armory on Thursday 3/13 and Saturday 3/15.
