Jason Dishman is a graduate of the Machine Trades program at New Castle Career Center (NCCC). Currently, he serves as the Assembly Supervisor at Crown Equipment Corporation in New Castle. His responsibilities in this role include overseeing the assembly line operations, ensuring safety and efficiency in the production of high-quality parts, managing and developing team members, and actively seeking opportunities for process improvement.
Jason's journey with Crown Equipment began in 2015, when he joined the company as a high school intern through the Machine Trades program. His experience during the internship solidified his passion for machining, and the positive culture at Crown was a major factor in his decision to join the company full-time after graduation. He stated, "Staying with Crown was one of the easiest decisions I have ever made.”
Reflecting on his educational experience, Jason acknowledges the significant role NCCC played in his career development. He said, "The Career Center helped me tremendously in getting to where I am in my career. It is a fantastic experience that helps prepare you for life as an adult and helps you discover what direction you want to take following graduation."
This success story serves as a testament to the effectiveness of the Career Center's programs in equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful transition into the workforce. It also demonstrates the value of employer partnerships: as students gain skills, employers build their future workforce.
Second-year Machine Trades Program students at NCCC can pursue internships with local partners, such as Crown Equipment. Career Boost, a partnership between Eastern Indiana Works and the East Central Education Service Center, manages the Machine Trades internships through NCCC.
These programs guide students onto their career paths by offering real-world work experiences during their studies. The practical skills gained before entering the job market help them secure permanent positions after graduation.
